Marble is much less durable than granite and can both stain and etch (lose their finish and become dull), and also scratch. With proper application and care, these stones can retain their beauty for many years. It is best suited for low traffic areas, for example; bathrooms.

Marble is high maintenance. You must use trivets or hot pads to avoid scratching, along with sealing at least twice a year to prevent staining.
